How to get to the SEFS Venue

The 14ᵗʰ SEFS will be held at the main campus of the Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University (BAİBÜ), 14 km west of the city center. The location is very easy to find for participants, being close to hotels, dormitories, guest house, coffee houses, bars and restaurants.

🚌 Shuttle Service from Airports – Registration Closed

Please note that registration for the SEFS14 Airport Shuttle Bus Service is now closed.

Participants who have not registered in advance can still reach Bolu by following the travel routes outlined below. For directions and transit options from Istanbul or Ankara, please scroll down to the “Routes to Bolu” section.​​

On-Site Support at Airports

Our SEFS14 Welcome Team will be present at the following airports to assist you upon arrival:

  • Istanbul Airport

  • Sabiha Gökçen Airport

  • Ankara Esenboğa Airport

Look for our staff members holding SEFS14 Symposium banners at the arrival halls or exit gates. They will guide you to your shuttle buses or provide directions to the intercity bus terminals if you're traveling to Bolu on your own.

Shuttle Service Between Hotels and Campus

For participants staying at hotels in Bolu, a free shuttle service will be provided between the hotels and the symposium venue.

  • Each morning, buses will depart from the hotels, ensuring timely transportation to the campus for all delegates.

  • At the end of each day’s presentations, return buses will be available from the campus to the hotels.

  • This free shuttle service is organized by the SEFS14 Organizing Committee.

🔁 Return Shuttle Service After Symposium

To assist participants with their return travel, shuttle buses will be arranged from Bolu to:

  • Ankara Esenboğa Airport

  • Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport

🚌 Participants can also take local buses from the Bolu Bus Terminal, with frequent services to both Ankara and Istanbul. Our organizing team will be available to guide you with schedules and bus ticketing.

More detailed return information will be announced during the symposium.

Route 1

The best and fastest route to Bolu by air is via the International Esenboğa Airport in Ankara (IATA: ESB, ICAO: LTAC) (suggested). The airport is located in the capital city (Ankara) of Türkiye.

Our guides will be waiting at the exit of the airport from early morning to midnight (depending on delegate arrival times) and will help you find the bus and/or reach to the Ankara Bus Station (AŞTİ otogar or AŞTİ Bus station).

If you want to go to Bolu by yourself, ask at the Airport Information Desk for the Ankara Bus Station (AŞTİ) where you can find buses to Bolu. There are many private bus companies from Ankara to Bolu. Once you are at the airport in Ankara, buses called HAVAŞ will be available in front of the exit of the airport. HAVAŞ will take you to the AŞTİ in about 45 minutes or so. The cost of HAVAŞ bus ticket from Esenboğa Airport to AŞTİ Bus station is about 150 TL (Turkish lira). From AŞTİ, you can take a direct bus to Bolu, and the average ticket price is 280 TL. You can pay for the bus ticket with either a credit card or cash.

Route 2

You can also reach Bolu via the Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Istanbul. SEFS guides will wait at the gate/exit of the airport from early morning to midnight (depending on delegate arrival times) and will help you to reach the bus stations, such as Ataşehir Dudullu or Samandıra bus terminals, from the airport. Again, it is important for us to know your arrival time to the airport; details will be provided in our website in the second call. 

Route 3

There is a new airport in İstanbul called İstanbul International Airport (IST). This is the 7th largest airports in the world. It is ranked first in the list of Europe's busiest airports with an average of 1500 flights per day. If you prefer to take this route, we should remind you that it may take about 7-8 hours to reach Bolu from the airport. Destination from IIA to Bolu is possible in a couple of ways (Metro, Shuttles etc.) but three (1-3) are illustrated below.

1. This way from the İstanbul Airport to Bolu via Alibeyköy Bus Station takes about 5h depending on the traffic time in İstanbul.

2. This way from the İstanbul Airport (1) to Esenler Bus Station (Esenler Otogarı) (2) takes about 1h 11min depending on the traffic time in İstanbul. Similarly, once you reach to the Esenler Bus Station, there will be several different bus travel agencies (Kamil Koç, Metro, Düzce Güven etc.) for you to chose. Esenler-Bolu route is similar to Alibeyköy-Bolu route.

3. By shuttle: There are several private shuttle travel agencies (Özmutlu Turizm, TTG Travel, İstanbul Shuttle). You can take one of them to reach Esenler Otogarı (Bus Staion) (2) from the IIA

  • Another option is to rent a car/vehicle from İstanbul or Ankara. Car rental companies are also available inside the airports and in the Bolu center. If you choose this option in Bolu, again please email sefs14bolu@gmail.com in advance. We can help.

  • Bolu is a very popular tourist destination; therefore, we suggest you make your travel and hotel reservations as early as possible. For detailed information about accommodation options, please visit the Accommodation tab. In the second call, there will be detailed information about the hotels and/or other possible places that you can stay. During your booking issues for the accommodation, please remind it that you are coming to Bolu for the SEFS 14 event.

  • Dormitory accommodation will also be available for students; details will be announced in December.
