Known for its deep canyons, rich vegetation, and the Cin Köprü—a historical stone bridge with local legends—the valley is a favorite among nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts.

Kınıkçı Kanyonu.jpg

Embark on an unforgettable hike through the breathtaking landscapes of Kınıkçı Canyon, located between the Seben and Kıbrıscık districts of Bolu. Surrounded by highland plateaus, the region is home to some of Turkey’s most spectacular natural scenery.

Ranked among the top 5 hiking routes in Turkey, Kınıkçı Canyon stretches over 27 km and boasts a stunning collection of caves, rock formations, and even natural fairy chimneys. The final stretch of this route reveals Byzantine-era ruins and historical bridges near the village of Çeltikderesi, adding a historical dimension to this nature-filled adventure.

The trail will start in Yuva Village (Seben) and end in Çeltikdere Village, covering an 8 km section of the canyon. Participants will walk along rocky and uneven terrain, creek crossings, and footpaths.

Before entering the canyon, hikers will visit an ancient man-made lake located approximately 1 km southwest of Yuva. This lake—believed to have once supported agricultural irrigation through ceramic water pipes (künk)—still contains rich aquatic life and fresh water year-round.

The hike is expected to start at around 10:00 AM.

As participants approach the canyon, they will encounter dramatic cliffside cave dwellings carved into towering rocks, along with a mystifying wooden balcony built into the steep cliffs, the origin and purpose of which remain unknown. The descent into the canyon floor will offer spectacular views of fairy chimneys and unusual rock formations, along with a pristine stream teeming with visible aquatic life. The canyon’s clean water is safe to drink.

The journey concludes in Kınıkçı Neighborhood of Çeltikdere, where participants can explore the remains of a Byzantine church, estimated to have been in use between 842–1284 AD, and ancient rock houses nestled into the canyon walls.

Estimated finish time is 16:00, after which participants will be transported to the town of Seben (approx. 25 km) for a brief tea break. The group will then return to Bolu.
